Ear Candling Instructions

FOR SAFETY

HAVE ANOTHER PERSON ATTENDING.

The candle needs to be straight, perpendicular to horizontal level.

Exercise extreme caution during use and disposal.

You'll need:  A fireproof container with water for dousing candle; a lighter or matches; scissors; cotton swabs; towels to wrap hair if desired; a mirror.

Ear oil is helpful, 1 or 2 drops 30-45 minutes prior to candling.

Optional, a foil covered paper plate slit with x in middle to accommodate candle during burning: insert tapered ear end of candle a couple of inches through 'x' prior to lighting and placement in ear.  This to catch any errant drips of wax or ash. A wooden skewer is helpful in cleaning the tube of a candle that fills prior to recommended burn level.

Ventilate the room, preferably to the outdoors, but don't burn candle in a draft.

TO CANDLE:

  1.     Light larger end of candle.  Immediately hold candle upright to

avoid any pooling  of wax in the candle.

  2.     Lie on a flat surface on your side, opposite of ear you wish to candle.

Use a pillow  to elevate your head to horizontal level.

  3.     Smoke will begin to fill tube of candle, lightly blow across small bottom

opening of tube until smoke begins to emit from bottom of candle.

  4.     Insert small tapered, UNLIT end into ear opening.  Give a slight quarter

turn to create a "seal".  No smoke should emit from candle at ear.

  5.     Verify candle straight all around and perpendicular to horizontal level.

Adjust your head position as needed until the candle is straight.

  6.     You, or your attendant, may choose to hold the candle.  The candle should

free stand at this point.  Hold candle if repositioning your head to straighten

          candle.

  7.     The candle will create a light vacuum that will suction excess earwax

          from ear.

  8.     Burn candle to 3" - 5" length.  Average burn time 10 minutes.

  9.     When needed, remove and trim the candle to prevent ash from the

candle to fall, or if candle clogs.

Carefully remove from ear, trim lit end into fireproof container with water.

Clean tube with wooden skewer.  Insert skewer from tapered end to clean.

10.     Follow steps 1-6 again if enough candle length remains to burn safely.

11.     Remove candle.  Douse in water in your fireproof container.

12.     Gently clean outer ear with swabs. Use care not to push any wax

remaining at ear opening  back into the ear canal.

          Burn another candle if needed.

Ear Candling Tips

  • For Safety:  Have another person attending.

Ear Candling is very relaxing and may make you sleepy.

The candle needs to be straight, perpendicular to horizontal level.

Excercise extreme caution during use and disposal

  • Ear candling should not hurt.  If you experience discomfort, discontinue use.

  • Ear oil or drops are helpful. Use 1 or 2 drops in ear 30 - 45 minutes before candling.

  • If a beginner, start slowly. Start with two candles per ear. Wait a few days

between sessions.  You may work up to more candles per session.

  • If candle clogs with earwax prior to recommended burn level; remove, cut burning end into water, clean tube with skewer, relight and reinsert to ear. Be sure candle tube is clear before relighting.  Continue with regular instructions.

  • If you unroll or cut the candle open, you'll se the extracted debris in the small end of the candle only.

  • If using a paper plate to accommodate candle during burning, cover with aluminum foil for safety.

  • Store your candles away from temperature extremes.
